Bandy is a sport played on a sheet of ice during
which teams use sticks to hit a ball into the
opposing team's goal. some of the things that make it different than ice hockey:
(a) body checking is not allowed
(b) playing behind the goal is not allowed
(c) the projectile is a ball instead of a puck
Is Bandy an Olympic Sport?
No, bandy is not an officially contested Olympic sport
but it was a demonstration sport at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Norway.
The Federation of International Bandy (FIB) was recognized
by the International Olympic Committee
with preliminary status in 2001 and with full status in 2004.
Where Is Bandy Most Popular?
The sport of bandy is most popular and most practiced
in the Northern European countries of
Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia.
